Voki- a New Way to Use Technology in the Classroom!

Hey y'all!

Sorry I've been MIA for so long. With the grade level switch, I'm feeling much more overwhelmed than I had anticipated. Oh well, at least I'm ready for Monday!

Have you heard of Voki? My principal introduced us to it at one of our Professional Development sessions. She is awesome! You can go to www.voki.com and create a caricature that says the text you tell it to. Here is one that I came up with... Keep in mind that our school is having an ocean theme in the hallways, so the pirate does fit! Press the play button to hear him talk. Enjoy!

Can't you see so many uses for this? How fun could this be to jazz up an otherwise boring topic? What about your kids recording their voice or typing up a short report? I can't wait to see if my kids enjoy it as much as I hope they do!

Thanks so much for sharing. I had come across this once but wasn't sure if it was a "legit" site. I've been playing around on it and I love it and see so many potentials. I have a question, if you have a chance, how do you get the different voices? I will be posting my Zero the Hero soon. Thanks again for sharing! Have a great school year! Your students are so blessed to have you for a teacher!

When you are creating or editing your Voki, you can change the voice on one of the give it a voice options. I click on the button with a T to type text. You type what you want it to say in the text box (remembering that sometimes things need to be spelled phonetically... my pirate Argh was spelled Are!) then underneath where you type should be two drop down menus. One for the language and one for the voice. Hope that helps!
