New Classroom Photos and New Assignment

Hey friends! Well, first of all, let me start out with my new bulletin board! My mom was able to come up and help me this year! And oh my... is she ever creative! So here is my new place to hang their work:

The segments of the caterpillar are made of felt. I put glitter on the front of the clothespins, and then hot glued them up there. The banner is from www.vistaprint.com. Isn't he cute?

On another note, I got news today that I will be teaching KINDERGARTEN this year instead of first grade. Guess I've got to change the subtitle on my blog... I'm sad to leave my current team, but I'm excited about the ladies I get to work with this year as well. I get to stay in the same room, too, so that was good news! Any tips for a new KINDERGARTEN teacher?

Oh my gosh! You JUST found out that you're teaching a different grade level? I think I'd freak out!

I'm amazed at how calm you are. Do they wait this long to give assignments or was their an enrollment change? Your caterpillar is adorable.

I taught kindergarten last year and now I am teaching first!!! I love both grades!! My biggest tip with kindergarten is to practice, practice, practice!!! At the risk of sounding like Harry Wong, also "Procedure! Procedure! Procedure!" I think that is true with any grade, but kindergarten especially. I also found out that my kinders (a nickname I grew to LOVE), were capable of a lot more than I originally thought! My crew last year became great little authors, readers, and mathematicians! Quick story- At the beginning of the year, I told my kinders during math time that this year they were going to become great mathematicians. Of course they had no clue what I meant, so I told them it is like a magician at math. You should have heard the ooohhs and ahhhs!! All year long, they were passionate about math! They were always saying, "Mr. D!! Teach us math tricks so I can show..." They were hooked! I think this year, I am going to have reading wizards and mathematics! Hopefully the reading wizards will be passionate also!!! Also, Have fun, laugh with them, make them laugh, and show them you care! As you can see, I love my kinders! Now I am planning on the same fun in first grade! GOOD LUCK!!

It looks adorable! Kindergarten is teaching procedure and sometimes like herding cats in the beginning but the change is dramatic by the end of year! I love it! Good Luck!

i went from 1 to K last summer (back to 1 this year though) and was freaking out, thinking i would spend more time tying shoes and re-buttoning clothes after bathroom breaks than teaching! while they were SUPER little, they were also super ADORABLE. they are more huggable and they are so eager. have no fear, my best behaved student this past year was the one that saw the inside of a school for the VERY FIRST TIME during our open house three days before school started. he was awesome!
