Doceri... A Great App for Explaining Things

Of all the apps out there that can be used to create tutorials or explanations, I have found that Doceri is my favorite. There are a lot out there like Screen Chomp, Edmodo, Explain Everything, and more, but Doceri is my favorite free app because you can save creations to the camera roll. Since we did a lot of posting on Kidblog, this was especially important to us.

I created a few different Doceri Centers for math to let my students show me different skills. They are differentiated, so be sure to check that out if you download the centers below.

Here is an example of a video one of my students created:

Here are the free Doceri Centers. Enjoy!

Team Building Fun

One of my favorite things to do with my class at the beginning of the year is any kind of team building activity. We often think about it for the first week or two of school, but I think it's a great thing to do throughout the year, too. Building classroom community is important to me.

With my class of highly gifted learners, this is something we are encouraged to do as well. Luckily, I have lots of resources from the GT curriculum they would have done in the pull out program.

At the beginning of the last school year, my students worked together to complete the stack the cups challenge. It's pretty much what it sounds like... every group is given the same amount of cups and are tasked with making the tallest tower they can. The catch to this specific challenge is that they have to make a plan first and stick to it no matter what. (Even if the tower is crashing down miserably, they have to stick with it!)

I always let them try another day as well. Here are some pictures from our stack the cups challenge.

I'll let you know when I find other team building challenges!
